Top Wineries Within Driving Distance of Philly

It’s easy to forget that there’s a whole world outside of our little Philly bubble. Pennsylvania and New Jersey may not be what you think of when you say wine country but the surrounding counties to Philadelphia are home to many wineries, and a growing number of them are winning awards. And to experience them, all you need is a chauffeured car and a few friends.

Cardinal Hollow Winery

Wine is complex. It doesn’t like to be reduced to stereotypes like, “all wine is made of grapes.” That’s why the folks over at Cardinal Hollow Winery have started making grape less wine with jalapeños, pumpkins, mangoes, and dandelions. We don’t totally get it either, but we’re intrigued. The newest release is: Strawberry and Spicy Strawberry. Fruit nose, crisp acidity and long finish.

Penns Woods Winery

In addition to wine pairings, this winery offers cheese and honey pairings! They also boast the perfect grounds for a picnic, and are open to helping you plan the perfect one. The tasting room in Chadds Ford, PA provides an all-around vineyard experience and hosts live music, food and wine pairings, and other exciting events each weekend.

Crossing Vineyards Winery

This might look like your average winery, but if you take a look at their events page you can see that they’re not messing around (or that they are messing around, which is what makes their events awesome?). Don’t miss their wine classes like: Snap & Sip, Cycle & Sip, Wine Tasting and Yoga. See the full list.

Stone and Key Cellars

Stone and Key lets you make your own wine, from crushing the grapes to bottling it and designing a custom label. You can also take daily tours and taste their wine for free.

Chaddsford Winery

With a tradition dating back to 1982 and an annual production of over 30,000 cases of wine, Chaddsford Winery is among the oldest, largest, and most acclaimed wineries in Pennsylvania. Chaddsford operates under the philosophy that wine should be fun and not intimidating,

Southwind Vineyard

You can enjoy wine while pleasing your inner child at this animal friendly vineyard. They have horses on the premises and they’re dog friendly too!

Stargazer’s Vineyard

Stargazers will fulfill all of your hip and trendy wine dreams with their sustainable growing practices. It also happens to be owned by an adorable married couple named Alice and John Weygandt.

New Hope Winery

This winery and gift shop is housed in a rustic little barn in Bucks County. Stop by for a wine tasting or one of their popular live music events!

Sand Castle

Sand Castle Winery makes its wine 100% from its own home-grown grapes, which is cool, but more importantly its tasting room is located in an actual castle. You actually can’t have a fancier weekend than tasting wine in a castle.
