A Night-By-Night Guide of Things to Do After Dark in Philly This Summer


Summer nights should be taken full advantage of, and luckily, it’s easy to do so in Philly. Every single night of the week there are concerts, happy hours, outdoor movie nights, free outdoor fitness, bar events and so much more.

And while you can visit an awesome beer garden or rooftop bar any night of the week, we’ve compiled a list of events that happen on specific nights of the week. We’ve broken our guide up by day of the week for easy scanning, to jump to a specific day of the week, read on and discover.

Monday

Movie Mondays at the Trocadero

The Trocadero Theatre kicks off the workweek with movie nights on Mondays that come complete with popcorn and drink specials. The films range from classic flicks like Clue to more modern releases like Creed.

Monday Jazz Jam at World Cafe Live

How about some free jazz to kick off the workweek? World Café Live hosts a performance by its house jazz band and then welcomes jazz musicians from the area to the stage.

Lobster Clambake at Red Owl Tavern

Monday night is lobster night at Red Owl Tavern. For $25 feast on a one-pound lobster, mussels, clams, shrimp, fingerling potatoes and corn on the cob.

Tuesday

Brains & Brawn: A Quizzo Baggo Combo at Morgan’s Pier

Tuesday night is game night at Morgan’s Pier as the waterfront bar hosts quizzo and baggo on Tuesday nights from 8 to 10 p.m. The winning team gets $50 off their bar tab!

Movie Night at the Dell Music Center

The Dell Music Center, a popular venue for gospel and R&B performances, hosts free outdoor movie nights throughout the summer months. Upcoming screenings include The Good Dinosaur and Creed.

Pay-What-You-Can Yoga at the Schuylkill Banks

On the grassy area near the Schuylkill River Banks Boardwalk, yogis flock for a 60-minute Tuesday night class — Yoga on the Banks.

Wednesday

Center City Sips

Summertime happy hour is the focal point on Wednesday evenings as Center City Sips pops up at more than 100 bars. The citywide happy hour runs all through the summer and even into the fall, too.

Passyunk Passeggiata

Wednesday evenings in East Passyunk mean extended happy hour, an outdoor farmers market at the Singing Fountain, live music, dinner deals and boutique sales for Passyunk Passeggiata, which runs weekly from 3 to 8 p.m

Pastorius Park Concerts

The summer concert series at Pastorius Park brings seven weeks of outdoor listening and lounging opportunities to Chestnut Hill. Rain or shine, the performances will go down, with Springside Chestnut Hill Academy’s Cherokee Campus acting as a backup indoor locale.

Pay-What-You-Wish Wednesday at the Philadelphia Museum of Art

Every Wednesday night, the Philadelphia Museum of Art hosts a pay-what-you-wish Wednesday promotion, complete with everything from yoga and crafts to after-hours tours and special events.

Thursday

Old City Eats

On Thursday nights, more than 30 restaurants in Old City offer up extended happy hour deals (yes, food and drinks!) until 8 p.m. A number of the participating restaurants even serve special menu items, too.

Stroll the Street in Manayunk

Starting at 5 p.m., dozens of restaurants and business in Manayunk celebrate Thursday night with deals on food and drinks, sales at shops, live music and more. Even a number of food trucks line the street during the event.

Screenings Under the Stars at Penn's Landing

Movies of all sort take the screen at Screenings Under The Stars at Penn's Landing, which returns on most Thursday nights in July and August. Films include Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Zootopia and Beetlejuice. All screenings are completely free.

Jazz Heritage Series at Malcolm X Park

Hosted by councilwoman Jannie Blackwell and Friends of Malcolm X Park, the Jazz Heritage Series in West Philly's Malcolm X Park offers more than half a dozen nights of live entertainment throughout the summer. This year marks the series' 15th anniversary.

Friday

Friday Night Backyard BYOB Happy Hour at Russet

Bring a bottle of your choice of spirit and head to Russet for a backyard BYOB happy hour featuring delicious mixers, fresh juice and stations featuring small bites, charcuterie and more.

Shane Confectionery Tours

On Friday nights at 6:30 p.m., Shane Confectionery invites fans of sweet treats in for tours of America’s oldest confectionary. For $7, learn about the equipment used to create the candy, taste the sweets and more.

Cedar Park Jazz Fridays

West Philly's verdant Cedar Park neighborhood invites one and all to pack a picnic and spend the evening outdoors during Fridays throughout the summer. Groove to smooth jazz and unwind in the relaxing park setting.

Saturday

Saturdays with DJ Royale at Stratus Rooftop Lounge

Saturdays are for dancing at Stratus Rooftop Lounge. Every week, the rooftop bar invites the public in for a high-energy night of dance with DJ Royale.

Summer of Summer at The Trestle Inn

Dance to classic disco songs at The Trestle Inn while enjoying drink specials for the weekly Summer of Summer event on Saturday nights.

Silk City Saturday with DJ DeeJay

A true dance party takes over Silk City on Saturday nights as DJ DeeJay provides the tunes for all to get down to. Expect everything from the latest Justin Timberlake and Pitbull songs to Motown classics.

Sunday

Sunday Cellar Wine Night at Good King Tavern

Sundays at the Good King Tavern mean half-price deals on select bottles of wine from the wine cellar. How's that for a good way to end the weekend?

Sunday Happy Hour at Jamonera

From 5 to 7 p.m., Jamonera serves up $5 tapas, $5 sangria, $6 cocktails and a $4 beer for its weeknight happy hour. The happy hour deal is available at the tables outside and at the bar.

Summer Sunday at the Trestle Inn

In celebration of the longer days, the Trestle Inn is offering its Sunday special from 5 to 11 p.m. Enjoy $10 pitchers of Neshaminy Creek J.A.W.N. Pale Ale and a rotating roster of food and drink deals, too.
